Lake Las Vegas Rowing Center

Situated along the western edge of Lake Las Vegas, the rowing center takes advantage of calm waters and an uninterrupted course ideally suited for training and competition. Designed as both an athletic facility and community destination, the project supports rowing programs while providing flexible spaces for meetings, events, and public activities.

Serving approximately 200 to 300 rowers, the facility includes locker rooms, training areas, classrooms, coaching offices, boat repair space, and extensive shell storage. The center also accommodates regattas, collegiate training camps, and youth rowing programs, strengthening its role within the broader rowing community.

The project establishes a permanent home for rowing at Lake Las Vegas while creating a welcoming environment that promotes participation across all ages and skill levels.

The architecture is informed by the rhythm and movement inherent to the sport of rowing. A cross-laminated timber roof structure takes its form from the rowing stroke-to-recovery ratio of 1:3, translating the cadence of the sport into a defining architectural expression.

Designed to nestle into the landscape, the upper level houses locker rooms, fitness spaces, classrooms, and the central Erg Room, a flexible training space enclosed with expansive glazing that frames views across the lake. Large openings connect the interior directly to exterior terraces, supporting indoor and outdoor training opportunities.

At lake level, the lower floor provides boat storage, maintenance areas, and coaching facilities that support the daily operations of the rowing center. The building's open and adaptable layout allows spaces to evolve alongside the needs of the organization and community.
